No Regard - The Why You Wait EP (4.5/5)

Why You Wait, an EP more intentional for the delorean than a 'Lac, delivers a futuristic epic that's ageless to the masses. The album was released 01.13.09 on the No Regard's blog, It's No Regard, where the album can also be purchased. The band has been hard at work preparing this installment, a 7-track EP that has been well worth the wait since their last release. The Virginia based group, No Regard brings a style incomparable to man. With rhymes part of their mechanics and beats flying out their hard-drives, there's no stopping them. The album might not have you moving like Kanye West's RoboCop, but at a much faster rate with more intensity and an incredible track lineup. There sound reckons above and beyond other cultural shocks like N.E.R.D., Kanye West, and The Cool Kids—genius in other words. However, this Virginia based group possesses a new trend. One that's built to firewall any generalizations with their synths and piano rolls. The Why You Wait EP has everything else on hiatus—stuck in the waiting room and is a must listen.

It's No Regard
The opening title to the Why You Wait EP invades your speakers, TV and car, literally. Harley enters with a list of demands that no one else can fulfill. And it isn't a dream, the takeover is in succession as him and Rosewell gives the world a transformation the autobots can't even prevent. But this epic opening battle sequence is the least bit deceptive, it's an at-ease broadcast letting the world know It's No Regard.

There's Nothing Wrong
Don't bug. Don't glitch. There's nothing wrong with a little spontaneousness. But there really is a message; is anyone out there? No, just Harley on a masquerading solo transmitting a love gone wrong. An airy blend of pianos clashing with drums and hi-hats create this masterpiece. A smooth and sophisticated daydream ruined by a nightmare leaving you with one final question; is there anyone out there? Because I'm looking for a connection, a little love fling.

Zooom
Mel B of No Regard takes off on Zooom—sending a blast of calm, melodic refreshment and vernacular rhymes through your eardrums. Spaceships come to a hault as the heart beat gets thrown into hyper-speed. Cause girls just want to have fun, but they love the fast lane and fast paced relationships even more. All Mel B and Jax ask is you to slow down, pump your breaks before you chant the L word through the microphone. This is a song for the lovers caught star gazing. Along with an oath for players that wake up next morning with a ring tied to their finger.

Spaceship
Screw your candy paint on that '65 throwback, 'I'm talkin' about my spaceship.' Synthesized guitars blare as the the Why You Wait EP enters back into the atmosphere with Harley and Rosewell's song, Spaceship. An autotune-riddled track conspiring originality, alienating everything you thought was in this year. Hands down, No Regard's Spaceship is well beyond The Beetle's Yellow Submarine.

Guitar
No Regard's heroism with their guitar has your girlfriend loving their star power. Quite the opposite of a Rick Rubin sample, Harley and Rosewell are back at it making everyone else look so ridiculous with this amplified classroom anthem. From the beginning all the way through the lunchroom cipher, Guitar goes well and beyond bragging rights. No Regard easily overcomes any school's band faster than Rodney Dangerfield did in the '80s movie, Back to School. But that's 'old and dusted,' No Regard is the new topic for discussion after this track.

Locker
Continuing with the School Daze, mind-rattling riffs open the song properly and proceed throughout the entire song as hi-hats and drums keep the melody steady. The smooth operators themselves hit you with a set of combinations that leads any girl to their locker, begging for a love note from yours truly, Harley & Rosewell, with love.

So You
The grand finale to the Why You Wait EP can't be justified as the ending. This conclusion is just the beginning of No Regard's ability to get an entire crowd going; an experiment with many more test subjects to come. From lunchroom tables to homecoming dances, there's a new hip-hop group from the South that's going well and beyond their alumni and brings a new phrase for the entire culture to chant; 'Why you gotta be so you????????????'

BioShock 2: Sea of Dreams Teaser Trailer (HD)

BioShock 2: Sea of Dreams will be the sequel to 2007's Game of the Year, 2K's BioShock. A video game driven with a plot so plasmatic, it goes above and beyond any director to date—especially George Lucas. Simply because few have questioned the base of BioShock; is it similar to Star Wars? And the answer is no. Nothingnot even the renderings—in this video game is forced. Yes, the gritty-underwater masterpiece lets you wield electricity and meltdown an entire Ice Age out of one hand, but that's besides the point. The dystopian city of Rapture is ruled by ADAM & EVE along with spliced up genes, mind control and tonics that boost more than you're metabolism. It's creator, Andrew Ryan, visualized his own Eden in the 1940s; one with stem cell research and phantom menaces referred to as Big Daddies. Andrew Ryan once said, "It wasn't impossible to build Rapture on the bottom of the sea. It was impossible to build it anywhere else." A man so spasmodic and hated by the CIA and Joseph Stalin's KGB, but so motivated to build his utopia. As you enter the world of Rapture, you play as a plane crash survivor named Jake who must overcome morality. Every choice you make will decide your fate, trust no one. Your only option in this psychological horror is to do whatever it takes to survive, just remember to use your instincts as well. What is righteous and what is cruelty.
Personally, BioShock reminded me of two incredible novels. Brave New World by Aldous Huxley and Next by Michael Crichton. Brave New World, written in 1932 foretells the future as a Utopia where everyone is genetically procreated and pharmaceutically treated to never age. Next is a recently published novel that keeps it's readers refusing to put the book down with it's nonstop climax. It makes us realize how small the world actually is and the corruptive nature we face when dealing with genetics.

"It wasn't impossible to
build Rapture on the bottom
of the sea. It was impossible
to build it anywhere else."
-Andrew Ryan.

BioShock 2: Sea of Dreams has planned it's release to be later this year in 2009, being the most anticipated game of the year with 2K's new studio in San Francisco. Global President of 2K, Christoph Hartmann says it's possible for BioShock to become the next Hexology, as long as they are careful and don't let their innovation cash in and turn into the unfortunate outcome of the Matrix trilogy. Below is a teaser of the upcoming release of BioShock 2, a cut scene that the recently released PS3 version contained.

Light up the Retro-Brigade?

It's officially 2009well, it has been for a few days. And with our culture about to incinerate with new influence, we were left curious at the end of '08. Obama taking office on January 20th (Swearing on the Qur'an?) and style at an all time importance, we've descended back into a discovery ageAnd it's beautiful. So in the past year who pushed up they lighter? Who's still cave-dwelling with sticks and stones trying to rekindle a lost flameIt's time to reveal who sparked this swagger and separate the ringleaders from these trapeze artists. The successors and entrepreneurs have spoken people. The Retro-Brigade's kicking your door down. We're burning your egg carton-padded studio to the ground. Deleting Fruity Loops from your piece of shit Windows Vista. Learn how to do it right or not do it at all. Be Cool, Calm, Collected—not a swagger jacker.

Fuck a gun get yourself a SneakTip tee!
